The Lukies family has been farming at Cammas Hall since 1889 and the current farmer, Jonathan, took over the reigns in mid 1990s but perhaps the most significant development took place in the 1960s.
In 1966 Cammas Hall became one of the pioneering PYO farms of the era, when Jonathan's father was left with a cancelled commercial order for blackcurrants. To salvage the situation, he threw open the farm gates and invited the people into to pick their own. From that point on, there was no turning back. He was at the vanguard of something special and PYO began a wave of popularity growing through the 1970s and 1980s. Of course, today Cammas Hall is more famous for it's strawberries although you'll still find blackcurrants available to pick during July and August, harking back to those early days.
Since taking over the farm, Jonathan has introduced a series of improvements and changes in order to secure the farm's future. In recent years, many PYO farms have been forced to close with rising overheads proving impossible to overcome. Cammas Hall has successfully mitigated this by providing a day out with something on offer for all the family. You can now enjoy multiple food and drink outlets, a farm shop, a children's play area, footgolf and a maize maze. On top of that there's a whole raft of events to enjoy each season from beer festivals to craft fairs, and princess parties to pumpkin patches. There's always something to look forward to and we love that customers return year on year with their children and their grandchildren.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2026 as we celebrate 60 years of PYO and more! Here's to the next 60 years 🍓🥂💎.
