A little something magical is taking place this Easter at Cammas Hall Farm...
There’s been a quiet flurry of activity across the farm and into the woods, as we’ve been getting everything ready for this year’s Fairy Tale Easter Trail —and it’s safe to say, it’s been a busy few weeks. We’re still keeping most of the surprises under wraps, but we thought we’d share a small glimpse of what’s to come. We're creating a trail that's immersive, playful and hopefully a little bit unexpected! Props have been sourced, costumes gathered and the character interacti

It's 60 years since Cammas Hall opened it's doors to the public!
The Lukies family has been farming at Cammas Hall since 1889 and the current farmer, Jonathan, took over the reigns in mid 1990s but perhaps the most significant development took place in the 1960s. In 1966 Cammas Hall became one of the pioneering PYO farms of the era, when Jonathan's father was left with a cancelled commercial order for blackcurrants. To salvage the situation, he threw open the farm gates and invited the people into to pick their own. From that point on, the

Why not make your own blackcurrant cordial this summer?
We’ve all heard of a well known blackcurrant cordial beginning with ‘R’ but it’s not difficult to make your own! It’s a great activity to do with the kids and a quick and easy way to use your Cammas fruit. 500g blackcurrants 250g golden caster sugar 300ml water 2 lemons (juice only) Give your blackcurrants a wash and remove all the stems. Pop them into a large saucepan with the sugar and water and heat gently, stirring them until the sugar has dissolved. Cook them gently for

In praise of the humble gooseberry! Available to PYO for a short time only.
We currently have strawberries and gooseberries available for PYO at the farm and there’s no doubt which is the most popular fruit! So we thought it only right that we put in a word for the humble gooseberry. They need a little more love and attention than other fruits but treat them right and they can make something delicious that epitomises the taste of a British summer. We won’t lie, all that topping and tailing makes them a bit of a faff to prepare but very rewarding, so

Billie Faiers & family visit the farm
Earlier in August 2021 we were pleased to welcome The Only Way is Essex original cast member Billie Faiers to the farm along with her children Nelly & Arthur. Billie was taking part in a photo shoot located in our blackberry rows to promote a well known chewy sweet (we won’t mention it here!). Thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day and the professional photos looked amazing. Following the shoot the children headed off to do some fruit picking with dad. We’re pretty sure the

National Chef of the Year: Cammas strawberries feature in Nick Smith’s victory
A massive congratulations to Essex chef Nick Smith who yesterday (30th September 2020) was crowned National Chef of the Year 2021 by the Craft Guild of Chefs! Previous winners include Gordon Ramsey, Mark Sargeant & Steve Groves. Nick contacted us back in August as he wanted to use locally grown Sweet Eve strawberries in his dessert for the competition which required the entrants to prepare a three course meal with an emphasis on ‘best of British’ and sustainability.
